 At its Villingen-Schwenningen site, Buchen UmweltService possesses a so-called "Biobed". In this treatment plant, contaminated soils from accidents and long-term pollution are microbiologically treated. This takes place by the 'controlled stack' technique. Microbes draw oil and hydrocarbon impurities out of the soil. During the process, the degradation capacity of the microbiology in the soil itself is influenced and optimized by controlled interventions in the temperature, nutrient and oxygen content.
